Effect of winter sports on renal prognosis of patients with stage 3 chronic kidney disease

Abstract:

Objective

To explore the effect of winter sports on the renal prognosis of patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) stage 3.

Methods

214 patients with CKD admitted to the First Affiliated Hospital of Hebei North University from February 2017 to April 2018 were prospectively selected as study subjects. Patients with CKD were divided into two groups according to their personal hobbies and wishes: sports group (winter sports, n=98) and non-sports group (non-winter sports, n=116). The renal prognosis of the two groups was compared, and the relationship between winter sports and renal prognosis of patients with CKD stage 3 was analyzed.

Results

After sports, the BUN, Scr, uric acid (UA) and urine albumin/creatinine ratio (UACR) levels of the sports group were lower than those of the non-sports group (P<0.05), and the eGFR level was higher than that of the non-sports group (P<0.05). The incidence of endpoint events in the sports group was lower than that of the non-sports group (P<0.05). The results of COX regression analysis showed that winter sports was an independent protective factor for the renal prognosis of patients with stage 3 CKD (OR: 0.384, 95%CI: 0.194-0.759, P<0.05).

Conclusion

Winter sports improved renal function and reduced the incidence of poor renal prognosis in patients with CKD stage 3.
