Abstract:

Objective

To analyze the teaching points and learning effect of an acute kidney injury-chronic kidney disease (AKI-CKD) transition model in mice.

Methods

The teaching objects were 4 graduate students who had not done animal experiments. Senior teachers conducted the 14-day training to prepare the mouse AKI-CKD transition model. The teaching effect was evaluated by the indexes including the preoperative mortality, the success rate of right kidney pedicle ligation, the success rate of blood obtaining by the inferior vena cava puncture, and the time of model preparation.

Results

Compared with results of the first day, results of seventh day displayed that the preoperative mortality (3.3%) was significantly decreased, and both the success rate of right kidney pedicle ligation (97.06%) and the success rate of blood obtaining by the inferior vena cava puncture (98.44%) were also significantly increased. After the 14-day training, the time of mouse model preparation was reduced to an average of 58 seconds from an average of 248 seconds on the first day.

Conclusion

The 14-day training with the preoperative mortality rate, the success rate of right kidney pedicle ligation, the success rate of blood extraction by inferior vena cava puncture, and the time of mouse model preparation as the teaching points could enable the participating graduate students to master the preparation method of mouse AKI-CKD transition model.
