Abstract:

The elderly population has become a high-risk population of drug-induced nephrotoxicity because of persisting declination in glomerular filtration rate with age, multiple underlying health problems, and widespread combination-medication. There is urgent demand for guiding safe medication in elderly population. However, no reliable recommendation can be found worldwide. The current article disclosed potentially nephrotoxic medications that should be avoided in elderly population, summarized principles for safe medication, and furthermore, provided health nursing methods from the viewpoint of traditional Chinese medicine.

Key words: Safety of medication, Drug-induced nephrotoxicity, Elderly population
