Abstract:

Objective

To investigate the effect of Astragalus Angelica ointment combined with individualized intervention on autologous arteriovenous fistula (AVF) in patients with maintenance hemodialysis (MHD).

Methods

MHD patients with AVF admitted from March 2019 to May 2021 were randomly divided into observation group (87 cases) and control group (89 cases). The control group was given individualized intervention, and the observation group was treated with Astragalus Angelica ointment combined with the individualized intervention for 2 weeks. The two groups were compared in vessel diameter, anastomotic blood flow, AVF patency rate, serum levels of hypoxia-inducible factor-1α (HIF-1α), platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF) and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), as well as AVF complications.

Results

After treatment, the blood vessel diameter and anastomotic blood flow of both groups were increased, especially in the observation group (P<0.05). The patency rate of AVF of the observation group was higher than that of the control group (P<0.05). After treatment, the serum levels of HIF-1α, VEGF and PDGF in the observation group were also significantly increased (P<0.05). The AVF complication rate of the observation group (6.90%) was apparently lower than that of the control group (25.84%) (P<0.05).

Conclusion

The Astragalus Angelica ointment may have an effect in improving the AVF blood flow and reducing the AVF complications in the MHD patients.
