Present situation and prospect of diagnosis and treatment of diabetic nephropathy with traditional Chinese medicine

Abstract:

Diabetes has become a major public health problem in China. Diabetic nephropathy is one of the most common and most serious microvascular complications of diabetes, and the situation of its prevention and control is particularly grim. Giving full play to the advantages and features of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and western medicine respectively, excavating and summarizing the essence of TCM theory system, and developing safe, effective and feasible types of new drugs and therapies, are the routes one must take to prevent and treat diabetic nephropathy by integrated TCM and western medicine. In this paper, the recent new research foci, such as supplementing spleen and pancreas theory, and emphasizing treatment of insulin resistance by the clearing heat and removing toxicity theory as well as the reducing phlegm and clearing dampness theory, are the key points for presentation in order to provide new ideas for prevention and treatment of diabetic nephropathy with traditional Chinese medicine.
