Abstract:

The pharmacokinetics in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) is quite different from that in patients with normal renal function. In patients with CKD,the dose or dosing interval of antibiotics excreted by kidneys should be adjusted appropriately, otherwise the side effects of the drugs may be increased. In contrast, blood purification treatment in patients with chronic renal failure, often results in the decrease of blood concentration of antibiotics. In order to maintain the consistent efficacy of antibiotic drugs, supplemental dosing during or after hemodialysis is sometimes required for patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD).This article will discuss specifically how to reasonably apply antibiotics in patients with kidney diseases.
