Abstract:

Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a global health problem. Some evidence suggests that the gut microbiota plays a very important role in AKI. In animals, there is a reciprocal relationship between the host AKI and the gut microbiota. The gut microbiota can significantly affect the prognosis of AKI, and AKI can also lead to changes of the gut microbiota. The interaction between them is called the "gut-kidney" axis. This article reviewed the role of gut microbiota in AKI, the potential molecular mechanism of gut microbiota affecting AKI, and the application prospect of gut microbiota in AKI treatment.
